We have already featured this report in our best places for new immigrants in Canada and best large cities in Canada posts.   MoneySense is “Canada’s leading personal finance magazine and leading personal finance website” and to determine these rankings they rated “each community across 34 separate categories.” The main grouping of categories included commuting, weather, demographics, wealth, housing, crime, taxation, amenities, health care and culture. For this specific list they added the following 7 criteria: child care spaces, population 14 and under, percentage of students, the number of daycare spaces for 1,000, the number of regulated day care space for children aged 0 to 5, average day care cost and percentage of families with kids. Based on this report, the 10 best places to raise kids in Canada are:

  4. Oakville, Ontario – Percentage of families with kids: 55; Overall 2014 ranking: 7th
  5. St. Albert, Alberta – Percentage of families with kids: 48; Overall 2014 ranking: 1st
  6. Ottawa, Ontario – Percentage of families with kids: 47; Overall 2014 ranking: 4th
  7. Lévis, Quebec – Percentage of families with kids: 44; Overall 2014 ranking: 12th
  8. Boucherville, Quebec – Percentage of families with kids: 42; Overall 2014 ranking: 7th
  9. Milton, Ontario – Percentage of families with kids: 59; Overall 2014 ranking: 44th
  10. Strathcona County, Alberta – Percentage of families with kids: 49; Overall 2014 ranking: 3rd

In regards to these cities, MoneySense said, “[that] most [are] family finance friendly cities because kids are expensive.
