Today, we’ll be featuring the 10 safest cities to live from the Safe Cities Index 2015 published by the Economist’s research arm the Economist Intelligent Unit (EIU).

“The Safe Cities Index measures the relative level of safety of a diverse mix of the world’s 10 safest cities to live 2015leading cities.” In order to do this they look at four main categories: digital security, health security, infrastructure safety, and personal safety. It should be noted that each category is then broken down into three to eight subcategories. In total, “the report is based on an index composed of more than 40 quantitative and qualitative indicators.” By looking into these broad-reaching indicators, the EIU was able to look at most safety aspects of the citizen’s living in each of these cities. Based on this data contained in the Safe Cities Index 2015 , the 10 safest cities to live are:

  1. Tokyo, Japan
  2. Singapore
  3. Osaka, Japan
  4. Stockholm, Sweden
  5. Amsterdam, Netherlands
  6. Sydney, Australia
  7. Zurich, Switzerland
  8. Toronto, Canada
  9. Melbourne, Australia
  10. New York, United States

It should be noted that Toronto is both the only Canadian city in the top 10 and the safest ranking city in all of North America.

Toronto has long prided itself on being a safe city to live and it was nice to see that confirmed by this index. Congratulations to our hometown!
