Chelsea Lately Auction for Human Rights Campaign Ends Sunday

I often write about the philanthropic efforts of celebrities and through this research I’ve noticed a recent growing trend in the popularity of celebrity auctions. These auctions can be for a personal item or a one-of-a-kind experience involving the star to raise money for a cause they support. Last month I wrote about The Elephant Project’s auction for Alzeimer’s Month where stars like Justin Bieber, Rihanna,  Darren Criss and Zooey Deschanel and many others posed with an elephant beanie baby and signed a special Elephant Project card. A package was then auctioned off containing the beanie baby, the picture and the card. It was a hugely popular campaign and a very effective fundraising and awareness strategy.chelsea-lately-charity-auction-csr-business

Another celebrity joining in on this trend is comedienne, author and late night TV host Chelsea Handler. The star of the E! late night talk show Chelsea Lately is moving her show to a larger studio on Monday October 15th and she is getting a new set in the process. This is what generally happens when a talk show is moved or changes formats but what makes this different is that Chelsea is auctioning off studio memorabilia for charity.

The auction is being held via ebay and bidding will close Sunday October 14th 2012. The auction includes thirty lots such as: the official star from Chuy Bravo’s dressing room, three of Chelsea Handler’s books (Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, Lies Chelsea Handler Told Me, and Are You There Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea) autographed and personalized for you, Chelsea Lately guest gift pack mug and towel, Chelsea’s prop outfit from when she hosted the MTV VMAs, After Lately poster signed by Chelsea and staff, and the official star from the Jonas Brothers dressing room as seen on Chelsea lately amongst many other items.

All the proceeds from this auction will go to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). The HRC was founded in 1980 and is “the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans, the Human Rights Campaign represents a force of more than one million members and supporters [across the United States] — all committed to making HRC’s vision a reality.

The irreverent comedienne has a large and loyal fan base that supports all her endeavours and this auction is no different. Fans want to participate in these auctions because they get an opportunity to own a piece of pop culture or experience that is meaningful to them and support a very worthy cause in the process. Ultimately everyone wins and I really hope this thoughtful trend continues.

Get in on the auction before it ends Sunday October 14th, 2012.
