TD Bank Group Set New Nonprofit Fundraising Record via CSR Business Program

Miratel prides itself on its CSR business initiatives and we are often inspired by the efforts of other (especially Canadian) companies and take pleasure featuring them here on the blog. TD Bank Group is a great example.

I have mentioned TD Bank Group when it ranked in the Top 500 Global Green Rankings Includes 19 Canadian Companies, the 10 Top Canadian Boards According to Gender Diversity, the 100 Top Employers in Canada, the 30 Top Green Organizations in Canada According to Employee Engagement and the 55 Greenest Canadian Employers 2012. I have also featured TD’s employee-giving program in the post titled TD’s CSR Business Programs Includes Successful Employee Giving Campaign with United Way which highlighted its 2011 efforts. We applauded TD for bringing in such an astounding amount of money and we are doing that today.

The employee-giving program was run again in 2012 and they recently announced that the campaign was another huge success and on this amazing achievement Tim Hockey, President & CEO, TD Canada Trust said they were thrilled to “have reached an incredible $50 million milestone in giving.” Hockey also spoke about another achievement TD was awarded, “We are also honoured to have been named Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals North American Corporate Partner of the Year, and hope to continue inspiring Canadians to give to such a great cause.” This is quite the distinction as other Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) corporate sponsors (in Canada) include: Walmart Canada, Costco Wholesale, RE/MAX Canada, Dairy Queen Canada, Air Canada Foundation, Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids, Marriott Hotels of Canada, Foresters, PartyLite Gifts Ltd., Pizza Pizza, Microsoft/Xbox Canada and First Student Canada.

All the proceeds for this program went to the CMN. CMN has flourished since its inception in “1983 from a televised fundraiser in a small studio to one of the North America’s leading children’s charities.” The founders of this organization were singer Marie Osmond and her family, John Schneider, Mick Shannon and Joe Lake. TD bank has been involved with CMN since 1994. The “Children’s Miracle Network helps to fund 14 children’s hospitals across Canada coast to coast.”

This is not the only philanthropic work that TD Bank Group does as they have donated over $65 million to support the communities they are doing business with in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. It is rewarding to see that not only has TD continued to make CSR business initiatives and philanthropy a priority but they also enable and motivate others to give. In these difficult economic times, it is amazing that employees and customers have banded together to make such a difference in the lives of others. Congratulations to all those who participated and to TD for making it all possible.
