TARGET+TOMS and KitchenAid are Redefining Fundraising and Giving this Holiday Season
We are proud of our CSR business values and regularly like to highlight other like-minded companies who share our ideals. As we head into the season of giving, today we are going to feature two CSR business endeavorus that are redefining doing just that: Target’s TARGET+TOMS campaign and KitchenAid’s Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown.
TARGET+TOMS
Conscious consumerism is an ever-growing trend as customers want their hard-earned dollars to do more than just purchase an item or service. More and more customers are looking to support businesses that, in turn, support causes they value. In the past few years, groundbreaking shoe retailer TOMS made its One for One concept accessible to the masses by donating a pair of shoes for every pair sold a pair. This in turn sparked others like Warby Parker, Moraleyes and BOBS by Skechers to adopt similar campaigns. TOMS then expanded this One for One shoe concept into also giving the gift of sight (TOMS Eyewear), water (TOMS Roasting Co) and entrepreneurship (The Marketplace). All of this has led to its latest endeavour, TARGET+TOMS – a partnership with Target (Canada and USA).
Starting the 16th of November for every TARGET+TOMS item purchased from the limited edition product line, either a pair of shoes, a blanket or a meal will be donated to someone in need. The product packaging will include the details of which donation or giving will occur with the purchase. The limited edition product line categories include women’s, men’s, kids and home wares. TOMS will be responsible for donating the shoes for both Canada and USA purchases, Canadian Red Cross and American Red Cross will give out the blankets and Food Banks Canada or Feeding America will distribute the food/meal or the monetary equivalent.
This partnership allows consumers to easily help others through their gift-giving this holiday season. It also increases the exposure and influence of the TOMS brand (which can only be a good thing) and sets Target apart from other big-box retailers.
KitchenAid’s Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown
Another noteworthy (and unique) fundraising event is KitchenAid’s Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown being held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Allstream Centre in Toronto.
Kitchen Aid has a history of CSR business initiatives that benefit breast cancer charities and, as such, this event will benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF). The Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown, will be emceed Noah Cappe and participating Food Network Canada celebrity chefs include Lynn Crawford, Vikram Vij, Corbin Tomaszesk, Susur Lee and Mark McEwan. The fundraising deadline is November 28, 2014 at 4:00 pm.
The fundraising incentive rewards for those participating in the event include a
- signed Culinary Showdown apron;
- an autographed cookbook from a celebrity chef;
- attending the Culinary Showdown and enjoying a three-course meal plus have the opportunity to win incentive prizes; or
- participate in the Celebrity Chefs School, attend the Culinary Showdown, enjoy a three-course meal, win incentive prizes and potentially be one of the top 50 fundraisers where you may be able to compete on stage alongside the celebrity chefs and receive a branded apron, a chef’s hat and gift from KitchenAid.
The KitchenAid’s Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown is an exceptional opportunity for foodies to combine their love and appreciation of all things culinary with raising funds and awareness to the fight against breast cancer.
