Today, we’ll be delving into the 10 best countries for business 2014 from Forbes’9th annual best countries for business list.
Forbes is one of the leading American business magazines, and when determining these rankings they looked at 146 nations and graded them based on 11 categories: property rights, innovation, taxes, technology, corruption, freedom (personal, trade and monetary), red tape, investor protection and stock market performance. Each of these categories was given equal weight when tabulating scores. Furthermore the data they used came from a host of reputable sources including Freedom House, Heritage Foundation, Property Rights Alliance, Transparency International, World Bank and World Economic Forum. Based on the data collected, the 10 best countries for business 2014, according to Forbes, are:
- Denmark – GDP: $324 Billion
- Hong Kong – GDP: $272 Billion
- New Zealand – GDP: $181 Billion
- Ireland – GDP: $221 Billion
- Sweden – GDP: $552 Billion
- Canada – GDP: $1,825 Billion
- Norway – GDP: $516 Billion
- Singapore – GDP: $296 Billion
- Switzerland – GDP: $646 Billion
- Finland – GDP: $260 Billion
It is important to note that GDP (gross domestic product) isn’t the deciding factor in this ranking. It is only being highlighted to demonstrate that although the United States have the highest GDP in the world at $16.7 trillion they ranked 18th overall.
