10 Best Countries from the Human Capital Report 2013
As a Canadian call centre we find it interesting to see how Canada fairs on the world’s stage. Today, we’ll be adding the 10 best countries from the Human Capital Report 2013 released by World Economic Forum (WEF), “an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.”
Human capital, “the skills and capacities that reside in people and that are put to productive use” is a critical component to economic growth. The Human Capital Report is “to serve as a basis for designing effective measures for workforce planning.” The WEF ranked 122 countries to paint a picture of long-term economic potential measured on four pillars: education, health and wellness, workforce and employment and enabling environment. These were further broken down into 51 indicators spread across the four pillars. Based on this methodology, the 10 best countries when it comes to Human Capital are:
- Switzerland: Education rank: 4th; Health and wellness rank: 1st; Workforce and employment rank: 1st; and Enabling environment rank: 2nd.
- Finland: Education rank: 1st; Health and wellness rank: 9th; Workforce and employment rank: 3rd; and Enabling environment rank: 1st.
- Singapore: Education rank: 3rd; Health and wellness rank: 13th; Workforce and employment rank: 2nd; and Enabling environment rank: 5th.
- Netherlands: Education rank: 7th; Health and wellness rank: 4th; Workforce and employment rank: 8th; and Enabling environment rank: 4th.
- Sweden: Education rank: 14th; Health and wellness rank: 2nd; Workforce and employment rank: 6th; Enabling environment rank: 10th.
- Germany: Education rank: 19th; Health and wellness rank: 8th; Workforce and employment rank: 9th; Enabling environment rank: 3rd.
- Norway: Education rank: 15th; Health and wellness rank: 6th; Workforce and employment rank: 5th; and Enabling environment rank: 8th.
- United Kingdom: Education rank: 10th; Health and wellness rank: 17th; Workforce and employment rank: 10th; and Enabling environment rank: 7th.
- Denmark: Education rank: 18th; Health and wellness rank: 3rd; Workforce and employment rank: 12th; and Enabling environment rank: 11th.
- Canada: Education rank: 2nd; Health and wellness rank: 20th; Workforce and employment rank: 15th; and Enabling environment rank: 17th.
Canada was the only North America country in this European dominated top ten. The United States’ overall ranking for 2013 was 16th. Congratulations to Canada for making the top 10.
