10 Online Shops that Support Nonprofit Fundraising or Promote a Cause Part 3

This is the third and final installment in my gifts that give to support nonprofit fundraising or raise awareness for a cause guide. In Part 1, I focused on the planet, animals and fair trade organizations and Part 2 was dedicated to humanitarian organizations and today I bring a bit of a (still very important) hodgepodge.

1. (RED) is fighting for “an AIDS free generation” and believe “2015 could be the beginning of the end.” They have an extensive online shop and supporters are advised “When you DO THE (RED) THING, a (RED) partner will give up some of its profits to fight AIDS.” Their list of partners is extensive and includes apparel, accessories, tech items from partners like Apple and Beats by Dr. Dre and all uniquely (RED).
2. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)/Doctor’s Without Borders is a “leading independent international medical relief organization” and they provide “medical help to people caught in many kinds of catastrophes, including armed conflicts, disasters such as floods and earthquakes, epidemics of disease and malnutrition crises.” MSF seeks “to alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health, and to restore and ensure respect for human beings and their dignity.” Due to their independence, they rely heavily on donations and all purchases made through the MSF Warehouse. Check out their inventory of items for use in field projects where the need is greatest.
3. The It Gets Better Project was created to “show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach – if they can just get through their teen years.” It began in September 2010 when Dan Savage and Terry Miller created a YouTube video to comfort and inspire LGBT youth in the face of harassment following a number of students taking their lives. Their message was it WILL get better and since numerous videos have been made from celebrities ranging from President Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton to Adam Lambert and Joel Madden. The proceeds from every purchase made through their online store enable them “to raise awareness, as well as fund suicide prevention and anti-bullying programs.”

4. Global Goods Partners is a “nonprofit organization that sells handmade, fair trade products in order to improve the economic status of women in marginalized communities around the world.” Through their online store they encourage supporters to “Shop for Change – Shop for Fair Trade Gifts and Change the Lives of Women.”
5. Amnesty International’s vision is “for every person to enjoy all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.” They are “independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion.” Through its online store, Amnesty sells fair trade products and clothing that make a statement and 100% of every purchase go to help Amnesty International’s fight for human rights.
6.  ONEXONE focus on the 5 factors they believe create the sum of a child’s well-being – water, hunger, healthcare, education and play and they endevour to improve the health, wellness and vitality of the world’s children one by one. Their motto is “hope belongs to everyone” and all purchases made through the ONEXONE store contribute to making that a reality as all proceeds go towards ONEXONE charitable initiatives around the world.
7. Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is the “largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans”. Through the Human Rights Campaign Online Store, a wide-range of products are available and “100% of every purchase goes to HRC’s fight for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.”
8. Children’s Wish is the “most recognized organization when it comes to granting wishes for children diagnosed with life threatening illnesses.” Through their online Catalogue of Wishes supporters can “choose from a variety of different components of a wish – travel, logistics, special treats and the little extras that make wishes special.”
9. VDAY is “a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls” and February 14, 2013 is the 10^th anniversary for VDAY and they “are inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence.” Through their online store, you can purchase ONE BILLION RISING gear for women, men, children and even pets to show their support for this worthy cause and event as Anne Hathaway recently did on the cover of Glamour.
10. Strummerville is a registered charity that was set up by the friends and family of the late great Joe Strummer in the years following his death on December 22, 2002. Joe continues to be an inspiration to generations and Strummerville honours his musical contribution by “offering support, resources and performance opportunities to artists who would not normally have access to them.“ You can support Strummerville by making a donation online for yourself or in the name of the Strummer fan on your list. You can also purchase a variety of merchandise from their online store like t-shirts, hoodies and accessories along with an amazing 2013 Forever Strummer calendar “featuring rare and exclusive photographs taken by Rock N Roll photographer, Bob Gruen.”  I can tell you that the 2012 calendar did not disappoint – every page was incredible and completely frame-worthy.
