10 Top Foreign Corporate Citizens in Canada 2013

Being a good corporate citizen and adhering to CSR business values is becoming more and more important in today’s corporate landscape. Miratel believes in and stands by it’s own CSR business values but we also like to highlight other companies who are doing the same. I have explored this in posts such as: 50 Best Corporate Citizens in Canada 2012, the 30 Top Green Organizations in Canada According to Employee Engagement, the 55 Greenest Canadian Employers, the 50 Top Diversity Employers in Canada, the Top 50 Canadian CSR Business List, Canada’s Top Employers for 2013,  the top 10 Canadian boards according to gender representation, the Top Canadian Boards According to Visible Minority and Aboriginal Representation, the 10 Top Sustainable Companies from the 2013 Global 100 List, the 2013 100 best corporate citizens list, the 12 top countries represented in the Global 100: World Leaders in Clean Capitalism, the 10 Green Business Leaders and The B Corp Best for the World List. Today we’ll be looking at 10 entries from the Top Foreign Corporate Citizens in Canada list released by Corporate Knights (CK).

CK is “a media, research and financial products company focused on quantifying and animating clean capitalism drivers for decision makers.” CK released the Top Foreign Corporate Citizens in Canada as part of its 12th annual 2013 Best Corporate Citizens in Canada report which we recently covered. “The Top Foreign Corporate Citizens list represent corporations with substantial operations in Canada who are leading the way on corporate citizenship and have their main headquarters in another country.” To qualify “companies must earn more than $1 billion/year in Canada, and the parent corporations must have qualified for CK’s 2013 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the world shortlist.” Below I have highlighted ten of the top corporations from the 2013 Top Foreign Corporate Citizens in Canada list (in alphabetical order):

2. Cisco Systems Canada – Country: United States
3. Citigroup Finance Canada Inc – Country: United States
4. Direct Energy Marketing Limited – Country: United Kingdom
5. Electrolux Canada Corp – Country: Sweden
6. General Electric Canada – Country: United States
7. IBM Canada Ltd – Country: United States
8. L’Oreal Canada Inc – Country: France
9. Nestle Canada Inc – Country: Switzerland
10. Shell Canada Ltd – Country: Netherlands

There are twenty-seven companies on the Top Foreign Corporate Citizens in Canada list, which represent the following eleven countries:

• 1) United States – Number of companies: 7
• 2) Germany – Number of companies: 5
• 3) United Kingdom – Number of companies: 4
• 4) Japan – Number of companies: 2
• 4) Netherlands – Number of companies: 2
• 4) Sweden – Number of companies: 2

• 7) South Korea – Number of companies: 1
• 7) Switzerland – Number of companies: 1

This illustrates that CSR business practices are positively impacting how business is being conducted across Canada and the globe. Kudos to all for leading the way and setting new standards.
