15 Most Innovative Countries in the World According to Global Innovation Index

Today we’ll be adding the 15 most innovative countries in the world from the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2014: The Human Factor in Innovation released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with Cornell University and INSEAD.
WIPO has been publishing the GII annually since 2007. WIPO is a “self-funding agency of the United Nations, with 187 member states” that serves as a “global forum for intellectual property services, policy, information and cooperation.” When compiling this year’s GII the WIPO ranked “143 economies around the world, using 81 indicators – to gauge both their innovation capabilities and measurable results.” This enabled the WIPO to get a comprehensive perspective of innovation around the world. Based on the data collected, the 15 most innovative countries in the world, according to the GII, are:
- Switzerland – Overall score: 64.78
- United Kingdom – Overall score: 62.37
- Sweden – Overall score: 62.29
- Finland – Overall score: 60.67
- Netherlands – Overall score: 60.59
- United States of America – Overall score: 60.09
- Singapore – Overall score: 59.24
- Denmark – Overall score: 57.52
- Luxembourg – Overall score: 56.86
- Hong Kong (China) – Overall score: 56.82
- Ireland – Overall score: 56.67
- Canada – Overall score: 56.13
- Germany – Overall score: 56.02
- Norway – Overall score: 55.59
- Israel – Overall score: 55.46
“Innovation and sustainable growth go hand in hand. In a boundary-less world such as ours, connected innovation is increasingly gaining prominence,” Osman Sultan, CEO of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, says in the report. “This is being fuelled [sic] by a more collaborative approach, challenging conventional methodologies and freeing-up efficiencies thereby benefiting everybody.”
Thus the online world is allowing innovation to be sparked and grow in ways never before seen. This is something that will only serve to help businesses and governments as they can reach out and capitalize on a wealth of talent and opportunity across the globe.
