Donate for a Chance to Meet Gaga and Celebrities Come Together for Alzheimer’s Auction
I regularly write about the connection between celebrities and philanthropy and how many of the most famous have attached giving back to their own brand. This association increases awareness for some very worthy causes and also encourages the same behavior from their fans. Many of the stars I am writing about today have been featured on some of my previous posts like 20 Celebrities Doing Good to Benefit Nonprofit Fundraising, the 10 Top Power Celebrities, the 10 Highest Paid Celebrities Under 30 List, 10 Top Celebrity Charitable Contributions Based on Publicity Value, the 10 Highest Paid Actors and 5 of the Highest Paid Celebrity Couples.
Lady Gaga contest to benefit The Young Storytellers Foundation
Lady Gaga is one star that has made giving back a priority. The iconic singer, songwriter, performer, fragrance creator also has her own charitable foundation called Born This Way Foundation, which her mother helps to run. Gaga, currently on her Born This Way Ball World Tour, is hosting a fundraising contest to give her fans the opportunity to meet Mother Monster. What makes this a little different is that to enter you have to make a donation to the Young Storytellers Foundation via Omaze by buying tickets to enter.
The Young Storytellers Foundation “develops literacy through the art of storytelling” with the mission to “inspire children to discover the power of their own voice”. Young Storytellers Foundation does this by “Using group exercises and one-on-one mentoring, we provide underserved children in the public school system an opportunity to write stories and see them brought to life through performance.”
Tickets are available: 1-4 tickets $5 each, 5-9 tickets $8 each and 10+ tickets are $7 each. Every five tickets purchased helps to raise enough money to give a child mentorship in the arts. The prize includes airfare, two night hotel stay, and tickets for two to the Born This Way Ball concert in San Jose, Costa Rica on November 3rd, 2012. Oh and you get to meet Lady Gaga herself after the show.
Lady Gaga is devoted to her fans just as much as they are devoted to her and she has a remarkable connection with them through Twitter, Facebook and her own social media site Little Monsters. That connection will definitely help fuel the success of this fundraising contest where everyone wins – the charity gets much needed funds with increased public awareness, Gaga is able to engage with her fans and the contest winner gets a once-in-a-lifetime experience with their idol.
Celebrities join together for Alzheimer’s Auction
Some of the world’s biggest celebrities are coming together the month of September for World Alzheimer’s Month. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease that affects the memory and cognitive capacity of those afflicted. To raise awareness and funds to help combat the disease Hollywood’s elite are participating in an auction to benefit The Elephant Project. “The Elephant Project is an organization to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association, which was started by David Niederhoffer after his grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s disease.” The name of the foundation was inspired by the phrase “elephants never forget.”
To help promote this important cause event, Niederhoffer asked “well-known celebrities to pose with an elephant beanie baby and sign a special Elephant Project card, which [will be available at auction.]” In fact, the auction packages feature: “an 8×10 picture of the celebrity and the elephant, a signed card from that celebrity, and an elephant beanie baby.”
Stars who are participating in the auction include:
- Music superstars One Direction (as a group as well as individual band members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan), Justin Bieber and Rihanna.
- Glee cast members Darren Criss, Chris Colfer, Naya Rivera and Lea Michele.
- The New Girl cast members Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Jake Johnson and Zooey Deschanel.
- Modern Family cast members Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sofia Vergara.
- SNL’ers Jimmy Fallon, Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader and Bobby Moynihan.
- Other celebrities: Martha Plimpton, Andy Cohen, Caroline Manzo, Carson Daly, Sutton Foster, Emmy Rossum, Mark Ruffalo, Shenae Grimes, AnnaLynne McCord, Ian Somerhalder, Pauley Perrette, Chris O’Donnell, Ann Curry, Zachary Quinto, Kim Kardashian, Tom Felton and Vanessa Hudgens amongst others.
The auction began September 10th and closes tomorrow, September 20th. Given the star power involved and their combined social media influence, it is sure to be a huge success. Check out all the celebrities participating and bid on your favourite’s auction package before it closes to win a great collectible and, most importantly, support this very worthy cause.
