FedEx delivers Corporate Social Responsibility
As a result of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, corporate social responsibility initiatives have been front and center in the news. Countless companies have stepped forward to make monetary donations or give their particular services. One company was FedEx who according to their website “is providing more than $1 million in cash and in-kind support to several global charities. The support will be used by the following designated relief organizations: the American Red Cross, Heart to Heart International, Direct Relief International and Water Missions”.
One question that sprang to mind was how quickly FedEx came out with a plan to donate services and money. When looking at their many corporate social responsibility initiatives it is clear that FedEx, understating the nature of their business, made disaster relief one of the tent posts of their plan. Many companies’ corporate social responsibility initiatives focus on bettering their community, and the environment, which are two very commendable acts. FedEx, however, seem to take a more global approach to their idea. They outline their corporate social responsibility initiatives as “actively support[ing] the communities [they] serve through strategic investment of [their] people, resources and network. [Their] four core giving areas are:
- Emergency and Disaster Relief
- Pedestrian and Child Safety
- Education
- Health and Human Services
“FedEx also recognizes effective environmental management as a global corporate priority and we are actively involved in environmental innovations and technologies designed to support this priority. ” FedEx has gone above and beyond in the creation of their corporate social responsibility initiatives because they have found a way to use their unique services to better serve the global community.
