Grammy Musicians Online Nonprofit Fundraising Auction Ends Today
In celebration of the recently held 54th annual Grammy Awards, the music community came together for a nonprofit fundraising auction benefiting both The Grammy Foundation and MusiCares.
The Grammy Foundation was created in “1989 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture — from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals.”
MusiCares is a charity that acts as a safety net for those in the music industry who find themselves in need. The foundation provides financial, medical, and other assistance with the utmost respect. They also focus the “resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.”
In order to raise funds for these two very worthy causes the Grammy auction opened February 6th and will end February 23rd, 2012. Bids can be made at the online auction and there are approximately one hundred items available for the public to bid on. The lots will be available in two cycles, and to make the event possible the Grammys have partnered with Kompolt Online Auction Agency Auction.
The lots range from exclusive once in a lifetime experiences to signed memorabilia. Some of the memorabilia was autographed and collected throughout Grammy week and during the live telecast which included Adele’s much anticipated return (see video at bottom). Pretty special one of a kind items and 100% of the money donated goes to the charities. Some of the online auction items include:
- 54th Grammy Award guitar signed by pop stars Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Jennifer Hudson.
- A signed vinyl copy of Adele’s “21” album (see image).
- Bruno Mars Signed Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar.
- Taylor Swift Signed Signature Model Baby Taylor Guitar.
- Signed Kelly Clarkson “Mr. Know it All” Sheet Music.
- Signed Vintage “McCartney II” Vinyl.
- Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Neil Young, James Taylor Signed Epiphone Acoustic Guitar.
- Kathy Griffn Tour Concert and Meet & Greet Experience.
- Foo Fighters Signed “Wasting Light” Vinyl.
- Carrie Underwood Signed Daisy Rock GRAMMY Acoustic Guitar.
- Neil Young Signed “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” Vintage Vinyl.
Other celebrities that contributed to the fundraising are: Grammy host LL Cool J, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Bonnie Raitt, Common, Alicia Keys, The Beach Boys, Jack Black, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gavin DeGraw, Lady Antebellum, Eminem, Jay-Z, Rod Stewart, Dolly Parton, Christina Aguilera, Usher, Slash, Miranda Lambert, Marc Anthony, and Nicki Minaj just to name a few.
As you can see, the lots are varied, unique, and certainly something any music lover or memorabilia collector would treasure.
The Grammy auction is a creative means to nonprofit fundraise for these charities. By running the event during awards season they are capitalizing on the popularity of the Grammy’s and the stars who were in attendance. Some of the most popular and successful recording artists are participating in the event which further adds to the appeal of the event. The motto for the Grammy’s this year is that they “take care of their own” and this auction certainly helps that along.
