New ‘give app’ set to change online fundraising for nonprofits

Online fundraising remains the hot topic for nonprofit fundraising technology and the introduction of a new mobile giving app might be the biggest game changer in the charity sector so far this year, in fact even a year from now this just could be the month where online giving changed forever. The introduction of a new app called appropriately enough ‘The Give App’ could well change the landscape for hundreds of thousands of nonprofits and millions of donors initially in the USA.

Mobile apps are big business and the most successful ones are tailored with the primary objective of simplifying tasks for the user – which is why I feel that ‘The Give App’ will have such a large impact. Initially designed for the US Market and hopefully if an upgrade to include Canada is forthcoming I can’t see any existing app having the same broad appeal for both nonprofits and donors alike. The advantages are as clear as the interface is simple and The Give App comes fully loaded and aligned with both GuideStar and Network for Good tools which provide widespread coverage for the whole charity sector.

The app, which saw the beta version rolled out last month, allows donors to use  the GuideStar database to search for their nonprofit of choice. The database is housed inside the app and kept current as nonprofits are added over time. Payment method need only be added once by the donor and will then be stored for any and all future donations.

Beyond the scope of charities supported the app looks fantastic as well – clean and simple to use which will only serve to heighten the appeal as awareness grows. Considering I’m only looking at the beta version which looks great I’d anticipate that the tool will be immaculate in a few months in tandem with growing appeal for donors and the charities themselves.

To keep ahead of the curve I’d suggest all registered nonprofits in the US register to access their own Give profile and include this app in their online giving framework – I really feel that use and awareness of the app and logo will be a major development in online fundraising during the next three to nine months. Just a few of the highlights are outlined below and we’ll watch this one carefully to monitor progress.

  • Giant database of over 1.9 million nonprofits throughout the United States via GuideStar resulting in access to almost all US based 501(c)3 organizations
  • All donations via the app are 100% tax deductible thanks to processing services via Network for Good, processing fees for the charties are fixed at a network wide 4.75%
  • No sign up fees for nonprofits or donors and no fees at all to donors
  • Complete social media interface options
  • Ability to build special event fundraising options via the built-in event builder housed within the app

There are a number of useful FAQs over on the Give App website in addition to much more information for both donors and nonprofits. If you’ve already registered and are using the beta version I’d be keen to learn how it is working so far for you. There is also a very useful .pdf for nonprofits to help them get started which I’ve studied and would recommend downloading,  you can access The Give App Nonprofit Toolkit here.

The app can be downloaded now via the Apple Store. ___________________________________________________________________________________ For nonprofit fundraising, CSR business and other news, connect with us on TwitterFacebook, Linkedin and Pinterest or subscribe to our RSS feed. The technology definitely makes immediate giving more readily available for sure, but at what levels? This could result in gifts far below a donor’s capacity than when asked in a traditional, thoughtful philanthropic call. We’ll see how this all plays out!

Thanks for reading Paul and also for your very considered comment. I totally agree, online fundraising isn’t likely to account for more than 25% of all fundraising over the next few years but options like this can truly help build the donor base especially for first time donors and hopefully help build the next generation of supporters.
