Share What You Are Thankful For Canada
Welcome to the Miratel blog. As a Toronto-based Canadian contact centre and mail house we thought we would bring you some random stories of happenings from around town today so let’s get to it.
The Toronto Star is extending an invitation to all Canadians, at home and abroad, to share what they are most thankful for in its upcoming documentary project called For This I Give Thanks. You can be thankful for a friend, lover or family member, a shared moment, a feeling, something you overcame, the weather, a talent you or someone else possess or anything really. It’s up to you. Nothing is too trivial – if it is meaningful to you and you are thankful for it then it qualifies. So grab your video camera and share your story of gratitude but please try to keep it to 2 minutes or less. Remember the more compelling the better so think this through before you hit record. You can read all the details about how to submit your video here and watch the video For This I Give Thanks. Tell your friends, family, co-workers and help spread the word.
Life on Canadian Streets
Mark Horvath is an American homelessness activist that is going across Canada in a tour that was organized by the Calgary Homelessness Foundation and is aimed at creating a Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness. Horvath’s Canadian tour began in Victoria on July 4 and wraps up in St. John’s on Sept. 12. Horvath’s tour was made possible by a series of vendors lending their products and services:
- vehicle provided by GMC
- fuel is from PetroCanada
- Virgin Mobile Canada is providing internet access
- Hanes has donated socks for Horvath to give to the homeless people he meets
- Delta Hotel is helping with accommodation.
Horvath knows homelessness first hand as he spent eight years in the early 1990s fighting his way through addiction and homelessness and then fell back into hard times in 2007. He decided to use his skills as a producer to film interviews with homeless people and has since visited 100 American cities and interviewed hundreds of homeless people. He asks every subject for their three wishes. His website was started in 2008 and gets about 50,000 hits a month. You can read the full story here.
